Announcements

There are a number of ways to connect with the mission and vision of Asbury UMC through various service opportunities, special events, and missions projects. Below, you will find some of the current announcements and a calendar of events for things going on in and through the ministry of Asbury.

To find out more about what is happening at Asbury, see the full weekly announcement sheet here!

  • Labyrinth: the walking prayer

Have you ever walked a labyrinth? A labyrinth is a prayer path that people walk as an active way to pray. Asbury members and friends are invited to walk the prayer labyrinth in the Spirit of Peace United Church of Christ fellowship hall (6509 S. Cliff Ave., Sioux Falls, SD). Come anytime between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. Simple instructions will be provided. You may spend as much or as little time as you might choose. The door code to enter the building is 6528#. We hope to see you there!

  • comforters

Comforters meet to put together small baby quilts. We match two flannel pieces of cloth, sew them together, turn them, and then tie them. Most of these small blankets are sent to Tree of Life, Mission, SD. A few blankets may be given to other non-profits in the Sioux Falls area. All are welcome to come and make the small quilts.

Come join us on Wednesday, March 12 from 9:30-11:30 in Room 005.

  • lenten wednesdays

Our Wednesday Lenten theme is The Third Day: Living the Resurrection based on a book by Bishop Tom Berlin. Each Wednesday during Lent – starting on Wednesday, March 12 – we will share a meal together at 5:15 p.m. served by a group or team. Worship and study will be held around the tables at 6:00 p.m. A free-will offering will be received to support the Tree of Life Ministry in Mission, SD. A leader from the Dakotas/Minnesota Conference will invite us (via video) into the scriptures to connect us with several individuals around Jesus in his final days, focusing on new life and redemption rather than loss.

    Wednesday Night Menu:

March 12 - Pulled Pork Sandwiches and Baked Beans

March 19 - Baked Potato Bar

    March 26 - Taco Bar

April 2 - Sandwiches and Salad

April 9 - To Be Determined

  • children's movie night

All children are invited to join us on Wednesday, March 12 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the Children’s Wing for a movie night. With Julie and Nick out of town we thought it would be fun to combine class times and show a movie and munch on popcorn! Children are invited to wear their jammies and bring a stuffy to cuddle during the movie.

  • a courageous conversation: Immigration & Amnesty

Join us for a Courageous Conversation event around the question “Immigration & Amnesty” on Monday, March 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. In partnership with Dakota Wesleyan University and Braver Angels, Rev. Dr. Joel Allen will moderate the discussion around the statement: “The United States should implement comprehensive immigration reform that includes a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who meet certain criteria, including residency duration and lack of serious criminal activity.”

This event seeks to foster an environment of respect and mutual understanding through a moderated discussion of a topic that is often polarizing. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to hear different perspectives from people – and have the option to share their own perspective, if they choose. Respect and good manners are expected of all participants. This event is open to the public.

  • mat weaving

Come make Plarn Sleeping Mats for Midwest Mission Distribution Center (MMDC). Plarn is plastic yarn made out of plastic grocery bags. The Sleeping Mats are sent internationally and locally. They are great for those who need a barrier between them and the hard ground. They have been sent for disaster relief, for the homeless, and for those who need temporary sleeping arrangements. Please sign up in the Mission Room (Room 005). Questions? Please contact Rennae at 605-261-2998.

Join us on Wednesday, March 26 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in Room 005.
