Missions

Asbury is a church with service, missions, and generosity as a driving core value. We believe in the words of John Wesley when he said, "Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can."

It is our belief that by serving the last and the least that we serve Jesus Christ himself (Matthew 25:31-46). Because of this, we are committed to doing all we can to meet the needs that we see present in the world around us believing that, in doing so, we participate in the Kingdom of God.

Christmas giving center

The Missions Team has once again put together a Christmas gift catalog that is sure to please everyone on your list.  Our catalog describes 22 international, regional and local mission projects that Asbury supports throughout the year. After you’ve made your selections, please mail the shopping list and a check (made out to Asbury) to the church.  We also have special greeting cards ready to fill out and send or drop in that stocking.  These are available at the church.

Laura Wilder Elementary School

Asbury's partnership with Laura Wilder Elementary is our signature ministry to our community as we seek to serve the students and families of our neighborhood school. We serve by volunteering for various school events, mentoring students, providing material resources for classrooms and staff, and praying for all involved in the community at Laura Wilder Elementary.

Books for Laura Wilder

Principal Matt Semmler reports that many library books checked out last spring (when schools moved to remote learning) were not returned this fall.  Therefore, funds are needed to restock the library shelves at Laura Wilder.  Our special Advent mission offering will be funds for library books.  A typical hardcover book will run between $10-15.  Please mark your check with “LW books” or donate online at sfasbury.org. Thank you for your generous support!

Mission Involvement

In Sioux Falls

In addition to our work with Laura Wilder Elementary, Asbury partners with many other local agencies and ministries to address the needs that are present in the community of Sioux Falls. Whether it is serving meals at The Banquet, distributing shoes with Samaritan's Feet, providing meals through Nightwatch Canteen, or working with the many other ministry partners that we have, our desire is to help be the hands and feet of Jesus to the people of Sioux Falls.

In the Dakotas

Asbury is committed to supporting the missions ministries of the Dakotas Conference of the United Methodist Church in partnership with congregations throughout North and South Dakota. Our primary focus in this partnership is Tree of Life Ministry in Mission, SD as they serve the Rosebud Reservation. Asbury has served by sending short-term mission teams, providing financial support, delivering used bikes, and sending many other material resources.

Around the World

Asbury is proud to partner with others throughout the United States and around the world to reach people with the good news of Jesus Christ. We do this in partnership with United Methodists around the world by supporting UMCOR (United Methodist Committee On Relief) by providing health kits, school kits, and funds for global relief efforts. We also support Solar Oven Partners as they equip people with a way to safely prepare food where solar power may be the only resource available.
