There are a number of ways to connect with the mission and vision of Asbury UMC through various service opportunities, special events, and missions projects. Below, you will find some of the current announcements and a calendar of events for things going on in and through the ministry of Asbury.

  • Advent Workshop

The Advent Workshop is back! The Children’s Ministry team is excited to announce the return of this popular event after taking a break last year due to COVID! You are all invited to join us on Sunday, December 5, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall for an afternoon celebrating the start of Advent! There you will find crafts, music, treats, and more! This is a family event so all children must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older. Registration is currently closed for this event. Questions? Contact Michelle Baird, Director of Children’s Ministries.

  • soup and sandwich social hour

Before our afternoon of celebrating the start of Advent during the Advent Workshop, let’s share a meal together! Whip up a pot of your favorite soup and bring it along to share during the Soup & Sandwich Social Hour! Serving will begin at 12:00 p.m. We ask for all who bring a soup to register so we can make sure we have plenty of room for serving and so we can make signs for all soups. Registration is currently closed for this event. Sandwiches will be provided. Questions? Contact Michelle Baird, Director of Children’s Ministries.

  • Star of Hope Worship

You’re invited to join us in-person or online for our annual “Star of Hope” worship on Wednesday, December 8 at 6:15 p.m. We will gather in the Sanctuary for a time of worship. The service will also be streamed online on the Sioux Falls Asbury UMC Facebook Campus.

Rev. Eric Grinager will offer a message of hope entitled “The Worst Thing is Never the Last Thing.” Life is filled with every emotional and spiritual challenge, from the highs to the lows. This is exaggerated during Advent and Christmas. We have Good News that challenges the blessed and lifts those who are low.

We hope and pray that this worship will create a time to reflect and accept where we are this year while offering hope, peace, joy, and love.

  • Asbury Christmas giving center

Your Christmas shopping made easy! The Missions Team has once again put together a Christmas gift catalog that is sure to please everyone on your list. Our catalog describes 22 international, regional and local mission projects that Asbury supports throughout the year. Download the catalog and shopping list, stop by the church and pick one up or call the office to have one mailed to you. After you’ve made your selections, drop off the shopping list and a check (made out to Asbury) at church or mail it to the church office. We also have special greeting cards ready to fill out and send or drop in that stocking; these are available at our table in the Hospitality Room.

  • Cayman Court Christmas Gifts

Asbury continues our long-standing tradition of providing Christmas gifts for residents of Cayman Court Assisted Living Facility. Cayman Court provides permanent, supportive housing for individuals with severe mental illness and who are/were homeless. Services include on-site psychiatric and case management services, housekeeping/laundry, transportation, planned activities and 3 meals each day. Click here view requested gifts and select one or more that you would like to purchase. Please note the ID number next to each gift. Each gift should be wrapped and have a tag on the outside with the gift ID number along with your name.

Place gifts under the tree in the sanctuary by December 12

  • Gifts for Laura Wilder Elementary

Help us spread holiday cheer by purchasing indoor recess games and activities for 19 Laura Wilder classrooms. Click here to find gift suggestions from LW teachers. Please note the teacher’s name and grade level. Wrap the gift, tag it with the teacher’s name and grade level, bring it to church and place it under the tree in the Hospitality Room. All gifts need to be at the church by December 12. Thank you!

  • Asbury online campus

We're excited to invite you to join Asbury's Facebook Campus, developed by our Digital Ministries Team to serve as Asbury's primary hub for online ministry. While online services and outreach efforts will continue to be found on the existing Facebook page, the Asbury Facebook group will contain things like staff check-ins, Wednesday Worship, volunteer resources, Bible studies, and much, much more.

Joining the Asbury Facebook Campus will ensure that you encounter opportunities to experience life-change with Christ by loving and accepting all, nurturing your discipleship, and serving others with more consistency online. We are excited to further develop this new space for ministry! Join the Asbury Facebook Campus here!

  • Immerse Bible Book Club

Asbury is developing  "Immerse" Bible Book Clubs for those interested in a different approach to reading scripture. The approach is like a book club in which 8-12 participants gather once a week to discuss the reading using these 4 questions:

    1.     What stood out to you this week?

    2.     Was there anything confusing or troubling?

    3.     Did anything make you think differently about God?

    4.     How might this change the way we live?

A Wednesday evening Immerse Bible Book Club will be held at 7:00 p.m., starting date to be determined.

If you are interested in more information, about Asbury's Immerse Bible Book Clubs, contact Pastor Matt.
