Announcements


There are a number of ways to connect with the mission and vision of Asbury UMC through various service opportunities, special events, and missions projects. Below, you will find some of the current announcements and a calendar of events for things going on in and through the ministry of Asbury.

  • Asbury's 75th Birthday celebration - join us in september! 

    This September, Asbury will celebrate 75 years of ministry! We invite you to join us in thanking God for faithfulness, honoring those who helped found and form our church, and looking forward with joy and hope.


    Each Sunday will feature worship, music, food, and fun activities as we reflect on our history and embrace our future. In addition, our Missions Team will collect 75 items each week for local charities—let’s give generously! 


    September 21 – Missions & Music

    Donuts will be served between services. Join the Missions Team for a Rice and Soy Blessing Bags Event in the Fellowship Hall from 9:00–11:30 a.m. Julie Ashworth and the Children's Choir will sing at the 9:15 a.m. service. Former Genesis and Joysingers members are invited to sing along! Free family photos will be offered in the Hospitality Room from 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The photos will be distributed digitally to families. We’ll collect 75 combs and brushes for the Union Gospel Mission.


    September 28 – Celebration Finale

    We’ll wrap up with an all-church lunch at 12:15 p.m. featuring catered chicken, birthday cake, and drinks—please bring a side to share. (There will be NO oven space for warm sides. If you have a warm side it must be in a crock pot.) Boyd Bristow will lead the Entry Band at the 11:00 a.m. service. Inflatables return from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on the north lawn. We will collect 75 cans of hearty soup for Feeding South Dakota.


    Please come share your memories and celebrate Asbury’s impact in your life. Invite former members, neighbors, and friends—everyone is welcome!

     

  • Asbury Serves The Banquet West

    Please join us as we serve at The Banquet West, 710 North Marion Road, on Tuesday, September 16. Five volunteers are needed at 2:00 p.m. to prepare the meal, and 12 volunteers are needed at 5:15 p.m. to serve our guests. Sign up here!


  • Adopt a Teacher/Classroom  at Laura Wilder Elementary

    We are looking for 18 volunteers (individuals or families) to participate in our Laura Wilder Adopt a Teacher/Classroom project. Volunteers will be partnered with a LW teacher for this school year. Our hope is that volunteers will build a relationship with the teacher and students by praying for them, sending notes of support and encouragement, providing small gifts, ets.   • Caring Connections - A Fellowship Group for women

    Caring Connections - Fellowship for Women of All Ages meets in the Asbury Library from 10:15-11:00 a.m. If you've never joined us, consider checking it out! As always, no preparation, drop in when you are able, fellowship group vs Bible Study vibe, no outside group commitments. Just a casual group of women gathering around the table sharing life, developing relationships and growing together in faith. Join us, there is always room around the table! Leaders: Judy Hines, Mary Millikan, Dawn Rice, Barb Roozen and Bonnie Shinn

     

  • Room 106 Adult Group

    Room 106 Adult Group will begin the year with a couple lessons called “Why? Because I Said So!” by Lloyd Petersen. The group will pick a book study together to finish out September. Please join us in Room 106 from 10:15-11:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings.

     

  • Small Group Mondays

    Join us for six Mondays as we study the newly revised Social Principles of the United Methodist Church. We’ll explore our church's stance on crucial topics facing our world today. Books are available in the office for $10.00 (check or exact change, please). The group begins on Monday, September 15 from 10:15-11:30 a.m. in Room 106.

     

  • Join Us on Wednesday Nights at asbury

    Wednesday Night Activities for children, youth, and adults!

  • mat weaving

    Come make Plarn Sleeping Mats for Midwest Mission Distribution Center (MMDC). Plarn is plastic yarn made out of plastic grocery bags. The Sleeping Mats are sent internationally and locally. They are great for those who need a barrier between them and the hard ground. They have been sent for disaster relief, for the homeless, and for those who need temporary sleeping arrangements. Please sign up in the Mission Room (Room 005). Questions? Please contact Rennae at 605-261-2998.

  • Third Grade bible sunday

    To be in third grade is special at Asbury! This is when students are gifted a Bible from the congregation and together we promise to recommit ourselves to the study of God’s Word; so that the seed planted in the hearts of the children will grow to bear fruit in the Kingdom of God. During the 9:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship services on September 21 we will present this year’s third graders with their very own Bible! Please contact Michelle Baird, Director of Children’s Ministries, by September 14 to let her know which service your family will be attending.


    Third Grade Bible Retreat

    All third graders are invited to spend some time exploring their new Bibles in fun ways at the Third Grade Bible Retreat on Friday, September 26 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Kiddos, come hungry! We will have pizza ready for you in the Fellowship Hall when you arrive! Make sure to remember to bring your new Bible!

     

  • Financial Peace University

    Asbury is beginning a new session of Financial Peace University on Sunday, September 28. Join the FPU class and learn how you can get rid of money stress for good. Classes will be held on Sundays from 3:00-5:00 p.m. in the Asbury Library. The cost is $79.99 but there is a refund of the registration cost for those completing the course.

  • Short-Term Mission Team

    Twelve volunteers are invited to travel to Midwest Mission Distribution Center in Jefferson, IA on October 5-7, leaving Sunday afternoon and returning Tuesday evening. Volunteer options include packing and verifying kits, sewing, cleaning medical equipment, sorting/organizing donations, weaving mats and repairing bikes and sewing machines. For more details, check out the information sheet on the ushers' table near the Sanctuary or contact Cindy Nelson.

  • Asbury Farmer's Market

    The Missions Team is once again hosting a Farmer’s Market on Sundays before and after worship through September.  Gardeners are invited to bring their extra produce and others can stop by and pick up something to take home and enjoy.  A freewill offering will benefit our upcoming Rice and Soy Blessing Bag Packing event with Midwest Missions Distribution Center.  The packing event will be at Asbury on September 21…watch for details.


  • By My WOrks

    All men are invited to join By My Works for breakfast and fellowship. We will meet on Saturday, October 4 at 8:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

    We're excited to invite you to join Asbury's Facebook Campus, Asbury's primary hub for online ministry, where you will find things like staff check-ins, Wednesday Worship, volunteer resources, Bible studies, and much, much more.

  • Serve at Asbury!

    There are a number of ways to experience life-change with Christ by serving others at Asbury by getting involved in one of Asbury's Ministry Teams! Opportunities involve hospitality ministries such as ushers and greeters, music ministries, discipleship ministries, digital ministries, online service hosts, and more.   • All Church Charge Conference

    Asbury's 2024 All-Church Charge Conference will be held on Sunday, November 24 in the Asbury Sanctuary. It will facilitated by District Superintendent Brandon Vetter a replay can be found here or on the Asbury Facebook Campus. A copy of the 2024 Charge Conference report can be found here.
