There are a number of ways to connect with the mission and vision of Asbury UMC through various service opportunities, special events, and missions projects. Below, you will find some of the current announcements and a calendar of events for things going on in and through the ministry of Asbury.

To find out more about what is happening at Asbury, see the full weekly announcement sheet here!

  • #Beumc Wednesday worship

Join us for Wednesday Worship in-person in Asbury’s Chapel or streamed online via Asbury’s Facebook Campus. The United Methodist denomination has some churches voting to leave (disaffiliate). There has been a lot of scared tactics and misinformation shared about the process in some churches throughout the Dakotas. We have invited three United Methodist pastors will share why they choose to #BeUMC.

Wed., Sept. 21 – Eric Grinager

Wed., Sept. 28 – Bill Gran

Wed., Oct. 5 – Bruce Forbes

Join us for worship as we celebrate what draws us to The United Methodist Church (UMC) and what we aspire to be. The UMC is founded on a Wesleyan theology of grace, anchored in Scripture, and based in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and the continuing movement of the Holy Spirit.

  • Asbury youth and family corn maze event

The youth and their families are invited to this year's corn maze at Heartland Country Corn Maze in Harrisburg, SD on Friday, October 7 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Please drop off/pick up youth at the Corn Maze. The cost of this event will be paid for by the church. All youth will need new permission slips signed for the new school year. • Asbury Farmer's Market

The Asbury Missions Team is once again hosting a Farmer's Market on Sunday before and after worship during August and September. Gardeners are invited to bring their extra produce and others can stop by and pick up something to take home and enjoy. A freewill offering for the items will benefit UMCOR hunger and poverty projects around the world.

  • UMCOR Asylum Project

During the month of September, Asbury is highlighting the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) Asylum Project "Leading with Welcome." Through this project, UMCOR partners with other agencies to provide free immigrant case management, resettlement services, and free legal services. According to Church World Service, every two seconds someone in the world is forced to leave their home and everything they know. With the threat of violence, persecution, or disaster knocking on their door, they make the only choice they can to find safety- they run. In recent years, fewer and fewer of the 70 million people who are forcibly displaced have access to the protection they need to rebuild their lives. Many nations that are hosting asylum seekers and refugees (including the United States at our southern border) deny them access to fundamental rights and critical services or have effectively closed their borders. The Asylum Project is focused on addressing these issues here in the US. Gifts for this ministry can be given by visiting our online giving page.

  • Trustees projects at Asbury

Asbury's Trustees are moving forward with a few needed projects at the church and you have the opportunity to help make them happen! First, we are replacing a few of the rooftop HVAC units that have been in use for longer than their intended lifespan. The cost of these units will exceed $60,000, of which we have already placed a $24,000 downpayment. We are also planning to refinish and reupholster the pews in the Sanctuary and the chairs in the Chapel. The Trustees are challenging Asbury members to consider giving $97 for each family member to cover the cost or to prayerfully consider what they might be able to contribute. You can contribute to either of these projects by visiting the online giving page here!

  • volunteer Opportunity

Kid Link Riverside is an outreach program of Sioux Falls Thrive. Every Tuesday evening volunteers provide a variety of activities for Laura B Anderson (LBA) students and families at Sermon on the Mount Mennonite Church across the street from the school. Part of the evening is serving a free meal using the Nightwatch food truck. The Missions Team is developing a list of volunteers who would be willing to serve the meal on an occasional Tuesday when we sign up to help. Four or five volunteers are needed each time. It would involve preparing a simple meal in the afternoon and/or serving the meal at LBA that evening. Food truck drivers are also needed. If interested, send your contact information to Cindy Nelson by email or 605-351-2818. She will contact you with details!
