Jesus said to his disciples, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
G. Weilacher once quipped: “One only needs two tools in life: WD-40 to make things go, and duct tape to make them stop.”
Do you have a “WD-40” faith or a “Duct Tape” faith? In other words, do you have a faith that moves or a faith that is stuck?
Jesus has given us this great commission to “Go therefore and make disciples…” How is your “Go” going? Are you comfortable taking your faith outside the walls of the church or are you stuck? Are you willing to do the work of Christ or are you afraid to get your hands dirty? Do you fear that you don’t know the Bible well enough to articulate what you believe? Are you able to share your faith with others or do the words get stuck in your mouth?
Our September sermon series is called “UNSTUCK.” It’s for those of us who feel like: “I’m stuck! I don’t know how to share my faith.” Our goal is to help one another, faithful church friends, to deepen our own faith and then to learn to talk about it – with each other first and then with friends. We will be challenged to think about people beyond the walls of Asbury.
Our Fall worship schedule begins on Sunday, September 9, with traditional worship at 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. The Contemporary service will move to 11:15 a.m. with classes for all ages at 10:15 a.m. Our worship themes are:
UNSTUCK: Free Our Mouths – September 9
UNSTUCK: Free Your Word – September 16
UNSTUCK: Free Our Hands – September 23
UNSTUCK: Free Our Feet – September 30
You’re invited to worship! Plan to attend a Sunday morning class. Sign-up to be part of a 6-week small group that will help “Unbind Your Heart.” Through worship and small groups we will learn how to share our faith in simple, down-to-earth ways. We will learn how to connect more deeply with Christ. We will learn to talk about it. We will learn to invite others to be part of the faith journey!
