Pastor Matt Morrison is Asbury’s Associate Pastor of Discipleship and Care and has 20 years of ministry experience in areas of worship, discipleship, and care ministries as well as having served as a Lead Pastor. Matt’s responsibilities at Asbury include coordinating discipleship ministries (including Sunday School and Small Groups as well as resourcing Asbury’s Youth Ministry), care ministries (including Stephen Ministry, hospital visitation, and other congregational care responses), leading worship for the Contemporary Worship Service, and assisting with preaching, weddings, and funerals.
Matt is a husband, father, cyclist, bike mechanic, multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter, and lifelong nerd (Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Dr. Who, Batman…). Favorite musical artists include MuteMath, Gungor, Future of Forestry, Twenty One Pilots, John Mark McMillan, Josh Garrels, N.W. Engbers, Hillsong United, Lauren Mann and countless others.
Matt serves on the board of Shift115, a non-profit organization committed to building unity in the Church through Christ-centered worship through mentoring, training events, and providing resources for worship musicians and congregations. Matt is also on the board of Living Media International, a non-profit in Haiti seeking to equip and empower through education with an emphasis in the arts. Matt has also been involved with AsOne Ministries in establishing a bike project in eastern Uganda to equip and train bike mechanics in basic bike maintenance and business practices to help them establish their own bike repair businesses.
Matt’s prior education includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education at the University of South Dakota and a Master’s Degree in Trumpet Performance at the University of Northern Colorado. He is currently working on his Master of Divinity degree as a part of the Kairos project through Sioux Falls Seminary and is a Local Licensed Pastor through the United Methodist Church.
