We are ready to celebrate the start of a new school year and officially launch our partnership with Laura Wilder Elementary.
First we’ll shower LW with gifts!
We’ll accept cash donations for gas cards, taxi rides, Scholastic book coupons and staff meals we’ll be serving during the year. They are also in need of the following items: laundry detergent (an incentive for parents to get kids to school on time), underwear for boys and girls (size small, 6-8 or 8-10), sweatpants in neutral colors (size small, 6-8 or 8-10), boxes of tissues, single serving coffee cups (K cups) for the staff room and paper products (plates, napkins, cups, plastic silverware) for the staff room.
Volunteers are also needed for two events.
On Monday, August 20 (1:00-4:00 p.m.) we will help the office staff prepare 500+ student packets and then assist teachers in their classrooms as they prepare for Open House and the first day of school.
On Tuesday, August 21 (4:15-6:45 p.m.) we’ll welcome students and their families back to school by serving a picnic supper during Open House. We’ll be on Asbury’s lawn at the corner of 31st and Jefferson. Come and get acquainted and help serve 600 hot dogs or volunteer to bake cookies and bars. Sign-up sheets are in the Hospitality Room!
Volunteer Options at Laura Wilder
Are you looking for ways you can connect with and support students at Laura Wilder Elementary? We have several options available. You can make a weekly commitment by mentoring an individual student, serving as a classroom volunteer or by tutoring students after school. If a weekly commitment doesn’t work for you, consider the PAWS program – that’s People at Work in Schools. Pick up a brochure on the usher’s table for more details on all of these volunteer options.
