Sunday School for PreK – 5th Grade
10:15–11:15 a.m. (September – May)
Digging Into the Life of Jesus leads kids in walking in Jesus’ footsteps from his birth to his resurrection and ascension. Kids don’t just learn about the historical Jesus; they get to know him personally. They’ll discover that Jesus is a real person—a real friend—who makes a difference in their lives today.
DIG IN emphasizes discovery… DIG IN creates experiences where kids make discoveries, helping them to take ownership of their faith. Simply being TOLD to believe something does not result in a strong and sustaining faith.
DIG IN is the present… DIG IN presents the Bible as real and relevant. Kids understand the Bible is not full of distant, irrelevant principles, but is packed with rich meaning that applies to their lives today.
DIG IN means knowing… DIG IN moves kids from knowing about the historical Jesus to knowing him personally and growing in a relationship with him.
DIG IN is experiential… DIG IN offers multisensory, educationally sound experiences that immerse kids in learning, rather than teacher talk that can result in boredom, disciplinary problems, and disengagement.
DIG IN means student talk… DIG IN builds in time for kids to talk to each other to process thoughts and concepts instead of only listening. Verbal participation helps to imprint Bible truths and capitalizes on the reality that for some kids “interacting with my friends” is a key motivator to come to church.
DIG IN is relational… DIG IN lessons involve interaction, conversation, and storytelling. Kids learn from adults who share their own faith stories, building trust, friendship, and a faith that sticks. Kids practice relational skills that help them live out their faith beyond the classroom.
◾Infant – 5 years Not in Sunday School: Nursery. From coloring and painting to singing and dancing, children will further experience Bible stories in a relaxed nurturing setting. Our nursery staff will be drawing activities from the ‘Toddlers & Twos’ portion of a “Dig In”.
◾Preschool (3 years, 4 years, & 5 year olds who are not in Kindergarten): Room 003. The teaching staff will be using the preschool portion of a “Dig In”. This format incorporates Bible stories, activities, crafts, media, and games into a full faith experience for children.
◾Kindergarten – 5th Grade: Fellowship Hall. The Children’s Ministry Team voted to try the “One-Room” format. This format allows children in Kindergarten through 5th grade to participate in some activities together, and also in small groups. It is intended that the range of ages will provide the opportunity for the kiddos to learn from each other on many levels.
Sunday School Forms
Each child in Sunday School, (PreK – 5th grade), must complete this form. Please print the form, fill it out and return it to Michelle at Asbury.
Wednesday Night Bible Study – Spark!
6:15-7:00 p.m. (September – May)
Spark! Bible Study for 3rd – 5th grade. All grades meet in Room 128.
As children grow in mind and body, they also grow in heart and soul. This weekly Bible study will nourish and enrich children in faith so they can proclaim the good news of God’s love and serve God and neighbor. Children will realize their faith goes with them as they grow. All children are asked to bring their Bible as we use them regularly.
We are also moving to a new curriculum for our Wednesday night Bible Study with our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. ‘Grow, Proclaim, Serve!’ offers a classroom format for upper elementary aged children that will reinforce concepts they have been formerly introduced to, as well as acquaint them with new ones.
